Refrigerators being a huge part of the home appliance market vary hugely in terms of colors, patterns, etc.

Unlike any other product in the same category, the refrigerator has a huge market which varies from lower middle class to elite class people. Thus different brands target different groups of people and the availability of products also varies in terms of brand positioning.
​
Surface pattern was designed keeping in mind the Indian consumers. A research was done on Indian societal/cultural background and Indian product trend to understand the psychology of the consumer while choosing the refrigerators, and also to understand the tones of color they like.

India culture is known for its vibrant colors and it is incorporated into festivals and celebrations. But the use and interpretation of colors varies by region. For example the use of pastel colors are more in the northern part whereas bright colors are used more in the south.
Use of colors like red, blue, gold, silver are very dominant across India irrespective of its cultural diversities.

As a part of my study I have visited small retail stores as well as big retail stores like Reliance and Spencers and brand stores

Patterns and styles of most products are similar types of floral and the most dominating color in the market was maroon or silver as the brands are targeting mostly the new home makers or gives it a neutral look.

Samsung and LG has experimented a lot with glass surfaces or high shine materials in the double door category as they target the elite class.

In floral designs also a lot of experiments can be done to stand out in the market.
Different types of styles and pattern designs can be created to shift refrigerator from the category of 'home appliance' to a be a part of complete kitchen decor as it takes a huge space and a major center of attraction in the kitchen. Colors have been selected carefully to be in line with the market trends and also to cater to various users across India.
